ES2: Project presentations

Published

March 18, 2026

Half class

The class will be divided into two seminar groups.

For projects with two students, one student should sign up for Group 1 and the other for Group 2 using
Canvas → People → “ES2 Project Seminar”.

Important

Please coordinate within your project group so that you do not sign up for the same seminar group.

Preparation

Prepare a short presentation of your project.

You may prepare the presentation together with your project partner, although each of you will give the presentation individually in different seminar groups. You may also choose to prepare your presentation independently.

The presentation should use the report or revealjs slides you prepared earlier, as described in ECS5. If you produced a written report, you may simply display it on screen and scroll through the document while presenting.

You are also welcome to show your GitHub repository if you wish. Some of you have developed very well-organised workflows and clear README files, which could be inspiring for others to see. Others may have encountered challenges and may find it useful to ask for input or feedback from the group.

Tip

Aim for a 5 minute presentation.

Your presentation should briefly cover:

  • the research question of your project
  • the data and analysis
    • All groups worked from the same overall data collection, so there is no need to describe it in general terms
    • However, you may have chosen different subsets and variables, which should be briefly explained
    • any insights or results you obtained

If you were able to obtain meaningful results, present these together with your interpretation and conclusions.

If you did not obtain clear results, instead focus on:

  • challenges you encountered during the project
  • how you tried to address these challenges
  • possible ways forward or what you would do differently if you continued the work

The seminar

Each student will present their project according to the instructions above.

After the presentations, we will conclude with a short discussion and reflection about the projects, including experiences from working with the data, the analysis, and the collaboration process.

Note

During this part of the seminar, any questions and reflections are welcome. The purpose is not to assess the quality of your answers, but to create space for honest discussion and reflection.

Think of this as an opportunity to explore challenges and uncertainties — and to prepare for a reality where working with data is rarely straightforward!
